YOUR QUESTIONS ABOUT OUR COURSES ANSWERED
Frequently Asked Questions
Who are the art sessions suitable for?
I work with GCSE and A Level Art students, as well as home-educated students aged 10 and above. Sessions are tailored to suit each student’s age, experience, and individual goals.
Where do the sessions take place?
All sessions take place at my home in Lichfield, in a smoke-free and pet-free environment.
Are the sessions one-to-one?
Yes. All tuition is one-to-one, allowing students to receive individual attention and fully tailored guidance throughout each session.
How long are the sessions?
Sessions are available as one-hour or two-hour lessons.
While one-hour sessions are useful for focused skill development, two-hour sessions are recommended to allow time for deeper exploration and more meaningful progress.
What happens before the first session?
For GCSE and A Level students, we will communicate before the first session via email or telephone to discuss coursework, strengths, and areas for development. This ensures the session is fully tailored to the student’s needs.
What do students work on during sessions?
Sessions may include:
- Drawing and observation skills
- Painting techniques (oil, watercolour, acrylic)
- Portraiture and figure work
- Artist research and contextual studies
- Experimentation with materials
- Developing ideas within a theme
- Sketchbook development and written annotations
- Planning and developing final pieces
- Portfolio development
Home-educated students focus on learning new skills through themes that interest them, with guidance alongside creative freedom.
Do students need to bring their own materials?
No. A wide range of art materials is provided. Students are welcome to bring sketchbooks or ongoing coursework if they wish.
Flexible, and built around you!
Can music be played during the session?
Yes. Students may choose to work with music playing or in silence, depending on what helps them feel most comfortable and focused.
Do you support GCSE and A Level coursework and exams?
Yes. I provide guidance aligned with assessment objectives, helping students strengthen sketchbooks, refine ideas, improve annotations, and develop more resolved final outcomes.
How do I book a session or package?
All sessions and packages are booked and paid for via my website. Payment is required at the time of booking to secure the session.
Do you offer block bookings?
Yes. 6-week packages are available and are strongly recommended for students who want to see consistent progress and build confidence over time.
What is your cancellation and rescheduling policy?
- Cancellations or rescheduling require at least 48 hours’ notice.
- Sessions cancelled with less than 48 hours’ notice are non-refundable and cannot be rescheduled.
- If sufficient notice is given, sessions may be rescheduled to an alternative date, subject to availability.
- Missed sessions or late arrivals cannot be extended beyond the booked time.
This policy helps ensure fairness and allows sessions to be offered to other students
Illness or emergency:
- In cases of sudden illness or genuine emergency, please make contact as soon as possible.
- Where notice cannot reasonably be given, I will aim to be as accommodating as possible and may offer a one-time reschedule at my discretion, subject to availability.
This policy helps ensure fairness, protects session availability, and supports all students.
Is tuition suitable for home-educated students?
Yes. Home-educated students aged 10+ are welcome. Sessions are structured yet flexible, focusing on skill development, artist techniques, and creative exploration.
